Samantha (Sam) Qian is a Chicago based Illustrator and Fiber Artist currently completing their Bachelors in Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Their work combines personification with objectification, constructing visual narratives set in mundane yet unusual reflections of the real world. Using anthropromorphized rabbit characters to represent themes of anxiety, surveilance, survival instincts, and dehumanization is their most frequently seen example of this. Twisting and intestinal repetative patterns act as conistent motifs between their illustration/comics and sculptures/fiberworks. They have a propensity for the highly accessible and DIY nature of both comic and fiber art communities. Their dream job is to fabricate puppets for a small budget horror film.
